The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) meets at least once a year to assess the status of wildlife species. Wildlife species assessed by COSEWIC as Extirpated, Endangered, Threatened or Special Concern will be considered for legal protection and recovery (or management) under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Based in part on COSEWIC’s status assessment, the government may decide to add a wildlife species to SARA’s List of Wildlife Species at Risk, to not add a wildlife species to the List of Wildlife Species at Risk, or to refer the matter back to COSEWIC for further information or consideration. Nothing is coming to mind with that description, aside from escaped pet birds. Where are you located?
27th of April. 2014
I spotted two tiny gray birds with red bills and some yellow striping on side of head and wings. They look like seed eaters but are very small. They were ‘grazing’ on the branches of my tamarack tree. I cannot find them in any book or website. Do you have any ideas? I would appreciate your input. Thanks. Andrea
