Skilled birders are needed to run Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) routes at locations across Canada. Volunteers must have excellent ‘birding by ear’ skills, have a reliable vehicle, and be able to survey their route in June or early July for several years.
In the Maritimes, BBS routes are available in northwestern Prince Edward Island, the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick, near Saint John in southern New Brunswick, southeastern Cape Breton, and southern Nova Scotia. Contact Becky Whittam at bwhittam@birdscanada.org if you are interested in one of these routes.
In southern Ontario, routes are available near Chatham, Gore Bay, Espanola, Bancroft, and Cornwall. There are also several routes available across northern Ontario, and surveyors in northern Ontario may be eligible for travel assistance. For routes in Ontario, email Audrey Heagy at aheagy@birdscanada.org.
In British Columbia, routes are available on Vancouver Island and in the Cariboo and Peace regions, as well as scattered sites across the province. Contact Dick Cannings (dcannings@birdscanada.org) if you are interested in these areas.
