We received an email from Gord Holm about a pair of robins who decided to raise a family on the railing of their back deck last year. The pictures show the location of the nest about three feet from the step that they use each time going in and out of the house, and the subsequent nest action. This took place about fifteen miles west of Wetaskiwin, AB. Thank you Gord for your wonderful photos and captions!
Nest under construction, about a two day job.
Nest is complete, lets bring the kids in
A nice evening and mom is doing her job
Dad looks on and guards the nest while mom is getting lunch
About 12 days and we have a family
Now we are starting to get feathers
And more feathers
And more feathers
Another evening shot and even more feathers. Growing like weeds.
Now we are starting to make demands. Like…Where is the food?
And more food please. We have nothing better to do but eat
Getting a little crowded in here. Are we going to build on or move out?
This was their last day in the nest. Gone the next morning, hopefully all safe and sound. Guess we are what you call “empty nesters”. It was nice to have them here but a little too close to the door. Had to be quiet and careful not to disturb.
Nice going Gord ,looks great. Some birds have it all .
I always knew you were a SOFTY at heart. you realize you are now their God Father and fully responsible for them if their parents have trouble? your a good guy – old buddy
Amazing pictures, to be able to witness so closely the process of a feathered friend raising it’s young is quite a treasure to behold. Thank you for sharing
