The spring birds are returning to southern Alberta for another year. There are many reports of waterfowl, including swans, raptors and even mountain bluebirds in the area.
Last week I was anxiously awaiting the weekend. I had the two days planned to within an inch, calculated to see the biggest variety of species on two day trips in different directions. Friday night I felt like a little kid on Christmas Eve, eagerly anticipating the next day. (you know you’re a birder when…)
And then I got up on Saturday.
WHAT THE HELL?
Our angry weather gods chose this day – of all days – to hit us with a rip roaring prairie blizzard. Six inches by noon, and that much more again before it was all over. I was a deflated balloon.
I swept off the bird feeding areas in the yard twice during the day, and noticed how very quiet it was in our muffled landscape. The only sounds to be heard were the mutters, whimpers and curses of house-bound birdwatchers throughout the city.
After the birdwatching-screwing-storm, our weather returned to normal. Sunny skies, puddles everywhere and nice warm temperatures. And it was Monday.
Loved this posting. Too funny!
Yikes..thats a weird spring for sure…Hope you have a long long summer!
