I think you’re correct about it being a Yellow-headed blackbird, likely a juvenile male. I’ve never seen one that looks like that either, but based on his colour scheme, I think that’s what it was.
The only bird I’ve ever seen eating dandelion seeds are Pine Siskins, so that was my first thought. But besides the colours being all wrong, the bill looked too heavy. I thought it must be a finch of some sort, but then I remembered where you are and thought of blackbirds. I think it’s a Yellow-headed Blackbird, although I’ve never seen one that looks like that, and never seen one on the ground eating dandelion seeds.
